Shimizu Corporation is an extensive engineering and construction enterprise headquartered in Japan that executes JICA projects overseas market established in the 1970s and has developed a track record in over 60 countries. The company has high awareness and standards of health and safety in Japan and wants to replicate those standards in its overseas construction sites. They realize the HSE risks and incidents at their Uganda and Ghana construction sites and highlight the importance of investing in workplace health and safety training. Hence, Shimizu contracted UniHouse and ICENT , which is a subsidiary of Gakken Holding to design and deliver specific HSE training for a safer site work. The objective of the training is to reduce workplace injury, enhance public reputation, cut costs and improve productivity The goals of the construction safety training with a focus on scaffolding and lifting work, fall prevention, the prevention of heavy equipment-related accidents, third-party related accidents, road diversions, and electrical accidents include: 1. To provide attendees with an understanding of the different types of scaffolding and their features and uses, including risks associated with wrong procedures and highlight the proper techniques for erecting, dismantling, and using scaffolding. 2. To teach attendees the safe use and inspection of lifting equipment and devices, including cranes, hoists, and slings. 3. To familiarize attendees with the different types of fall protection systems and how to use them correctly, as well as the importance of proper planning and training. 4. To help attendees understand the common hazards associated with heavy equipment operation and the role of traffic control and signalling in preventing accidents involving heavy equipment. 5. To increase attendees' awareness of the hazards associated with third-party activities on the job site and the importance of proper communication and coordination between workers and third parties to prevent accidents. 6. To teach attendees the hazards associated with road diversions and detours on construction sites and the importance of proper planning and communication in the setup and maintenance of road diversions. 7. To provide attendees with an understanding of the hazards associated with electrical work in the construction industry and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety measures to prevent electrical accidents. UniHouse has been appointed by Kuwait Association for Needy Families (KANF) as the principal consultant to establish an advanced high-technology university of computer science and information technology. The scope of consultancy includes the development of the methodology, curricula, and necessary tools to equip students with the knowledge and skills essential for them in computer science and computer technology fields. They will be able to design, develop, and innovate software solutions that take advantage of the latest advances in areas such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, and cybersecurity. The university will have affiliation with pioneering international universities in the above topics and is meant to be at the forefront of technology, where students, professionals, and practitioners from the Gulf will come to have access to world-standard teaching equipment administered by elite educators. KANF plans for the university to be fully operational in 2028. Mr. Bader Almubarak, Chairman of KANF, highlights the mission of the university as noble. ‘We are bringing the most innovative global education to Kuwait by investing in future technology and making it available for students from our region and all around the world.’ Says Mr. Almubarak. ‘The university will host more than 30,000 students by 2038.’ He forecasts. ‘And, it is expected to have a capacity of 1,500 students in a building of approximately 21,500 sqm and will be on a land area of around 40,000 sqm.’ Adds Mr. Almubarak. Administered by high-caliber faculty, the campus will be equipped with sophisticated equipment and technological facilities with teaching aids that will give the students an immersive learning journey. In collaboration with its worldwide network of educational institutes, UniHouse will set the strategy to adopt internationally accredited programmes addressing the increasing market demand for such majors. Mr. Ben Muziek, Director of Learning and Capacity Building at UniHouse, says, ‘We are excited about our contribution to this state-of-the-art university which will place Kuwait at the heart of innovation in the Middle East region.
